1754


May 28

The Battle of Jumonville Glen, (near present-day Uniontown, Penn.), fought by French and English colonials for control of the Ohio River, ends in British victory.


July 3
The Siege of Fort Necessity, (in present-day Farmington, Penn.), also fought by French and English colonials as a response to the battle at Jumonville, ends in French victory.


June 19 - July 11
Representatives of seven British colonies meet at the Albany Conference. As a result, the Albany Plan of Union is produced and the Iroquois attained British recognition as the superior Indian nation among its Indian allies.
 


 
1755


June 16-17

British regulars and colonial provincials capture Forts Beauséjour and Gaspereau in Nova Scotia (Acadia), resulting in the expulsion of the Acadians.

 

July 9
The Battle at the Monongahela (near present-day Pittsburgh, Penn.) between French and Indian forces against British regulars and colonial provincial forces, ends in a French victory.

 

September 8
The Battle of Lake George (NY) ends in British victory. Forts Edward (on the Hudson River) and William Henry (at the head of Lake George) are built by the British, and Fort Carillon (at the outlet of Lake George on Lake Champlain) is built by the French.

March
British supply depot and storehouse Fort Bull (present-day Rome, NY) is taken by French troops.


May 11
The Marquis de Montcalm arrives in Canada and takes command of all French forces.


May 18
Britain officially declares war on France.


August 10 - 14
The Siege of Fort Oswego ends in French victory.


June 9
France officially declares war on Britain.
 



1757


August 4 - 9
The Battle of Fort William Henry ends in French victory.



 
1758


June 1 - July 26
Siege of Louisburg (present-day Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia), ends in a British victory and the destruction of the French fortress.

 

 

July 8
The Battle of Fort Carillon (present-day Ticonderoga, NY) ends in French victory.

 

August 25 - 27
British Colonial forces lay siege to and capture Fort Frontenac (present-day Kingston, Ontario).


August 26
The construction of Fort Stanwix (near present-day Rome, NY) begins.
  


 
1759


June - September 13
The Siege of Quebec, resulting in a British victory. Montcalm and Wolfe both die before the French surrender.

 

 

July 1 - 25
The Siege of Fort Niagara, (present-day Youngstown, NY) in June, ends in British victory.


July 22 - 27
After a four-day siege, the British take over Fort Carillon and rename it Fort Ticonderoga.

 

August 4
British forces take possession of Fort St-Frédéric at Crown Point, in New York, (Pointe à la Chevelure) and begin building His Majesty’s Fort of Crown Point, a fortress with redoubts that eventually encompassed five square miles.

The French begin to evacuate Fort de la Presentation and construct Fort Levis (both in present-day Ogdensburg, NY).
 


 

1760

 

April 28
The Battle of Sainte-Foy (west of Quebec) ends in a French defeat. French forces retreat to Montreal.
 

August 17-25
The Siege of Fort Levis by the British, results in a British victory, opening the St. Lawrence River down to Montreal.

September 10
British armies from Quebec, Crown Point and Oswego converge on Montreal, forcing the surrender of all of New France, effectively ending the war in North America.

 


 

1763


February 10
The war ends with the signing of the Treaty of Paris.
